Phillies indicate Pedro as Game 2 starter 

Veteran hasn't pitched since Sept. 30, but Phils confident

LOS ANGELES -- Pedro Martinez understood why the Phillies scratched him from his scheduled start in Game 3 of the National League Division Series.

神之右手Pedro Martinez 知道為什麼國聯分區賽第三戰先發投手不是他。(我以為是因為大風雪，跳過輪值哩!!!)

He had not pitched since Sept. 30, and had thrown just four innings since Sept. 19. Frankly, left-hander J.A. Happ was a better option against a left-handed-heavy Colorado Rockies lineup.

自從九月三十號後，Pedro Martinez 就沒有登板投球了。

九月十九號那次上場也只投了四局。

老實說，左投的J.A. Happ是對抗比較多左打者的洛磯隊的較好人選。

"It's the most reasonable thing to do," Martinez said Saturday in Denver. "I haven't thrown in 10 days."

"這是一個最明智的調度"，神之右手Pedro星期天在丹佛這樣說。"我已經十天沒上投手丘了"

Ten days has turned into 14 days, but a team source said Wednesday night that Martinez would start Game 2 of the National League Championship Series on Friday afternoon against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium. Phillies manager Charlie Manuel tipped his hand earlier during a news conference when he said right-hander Joe Blanton and Happ will be available in the bullpen in Games 1 and 2.

跳過一次先發，就是14天沒上場投球了。

費城人在星期三時，決定讓神之右手Pedro在星期五下午國聯冠軍戰的第二場先發(道奇主場)。

費城人總教練稍早透露，右投手Joe Blanton跟左投手Happ會在國聯冠軍戰前兩場比賽在牛棚待命。

Left-hander Cole Hamels will start for the Phillies in Game 1 on Thursday. Left-hander Cliff Lee is in line to pitch Game 3 on Sunday at Citizens Bank Park.

帥哥左投Cole Hamels將會在星期四國聯冠軍戰第一場先發投球。

小李飛刀(Cliff Lee)則是星期天國聯冠軍第三戰掛帥主投(費城人主場)。

"I hope I [pitch]," Martinez said before Wednesday's workout at Dodger Stadium. "I'm open to do whatever.

"It would be special to be able to be part of any game. The playoffs are big. For a person like me, I am not going to get too overexcited, but I still have the same respect for the game and I acknowledge the fact that it's a playoff game and a great opportunity."

But what about the rust?

Phillies pitching coach Rich Dubee said Martinez looked "dandy" throwing two innings in a simulated game Tuesday. He said between the simulated game and bullpen sessions, Martinez has thrown enough to stay sharp.

但...這麼久沒投球，會不會風險過高呀?!!!

費城人的投手教練Rich Dubee 說Pedro的狀況好極了，在星期二投了兩局的模擬賽後。

Rich Dubee還說從分區賽的牛棚待命到今天的模擬賽，Pedro已經調整到最佳狀態。

Manuel agreed.

"I think he's done enough work that I'm very confident sending him out," Manuel said. "I think he's capable of throwing anywhere from like 75 to 90 pitches, maybe 95, maybe even 100. But I think that gets you into the sixth inning or seventh, and I think where we're at with our pitching and everything, I think that would work. ... Yeah, I have confidence in him because I know him. I know the experience that he has. I liked his stuff [Tuesday]. Dubee and I stood there, and we were talking while he was throwing, and his stuff is there."

費城人總教練Manuel也同意這樣的說法。

"我認為Pedro已經準備好了，第二場比賽我很有信心"，

"Pedro有能力投出75~90球，也許可以到95球，甚至100球"，

"我認為Pedro可以吃下六局或者七局"，"我會密切注意所有應該注意的事情去贏得比賽"

"我了解Prdro，所以對Pedro很有信心。對於這種關鍵比賽，Pedro實在太有經驗了"。

"我喜歡Prdro的投球實力"。

總教練跟投手教練觀看Pedro練投時候這麼說，"你看，這就是他的投球實力"。

But here's an interesting twist: Martinez did not sound like a man who thinks he is sharp.

"I threw on the side and in the bullpen, but that's not enough," he said. "I threw two innings of BP yesterday, but that's pretty much it. I'm going to let Dubee and Charlie make the decision. My two innings of BP were a little bit erratic, wild a little bit."

但是，這裡有一個轉折：神之右手Pedro Martinez似乎沒有到達最巔峰的狀態。

"我昨天投了兩局好球(BP)，感覺相當不錯"，Pedro 這樣描述自己的狀況

"我正要去告訴投手教練以及總教練我的狀況，然後由他們做決定"，

"這兩局的好投有一點詭異，有點投得太好了!!!"

Maybe that is gamesmanship on Martinez's part. Maybe he is fine. Or maybe he really does not feel sharp.

He has no choice but to be sharp Friday or it will be a long day for the Phillies bullpen.

也許這是國聯冠軍戰第二場前的煙霧彈。

也許神之右手Pedro Martinez 的狀況不錯。

或者，只是他自己覺得沒有以前那麼神了。

總之，Pedro必須在星期五的下午有場亮麗的表現，

否則，費城人的牛棚會有漫長的一天。
